This page is devoted to those investigations where a minimal number of results turned up that do not warrant a web page in itself, but where some representative photos can be posted of the investigation as a whole. This page will be updated and added to as the need arises.

BROWNHELM CEMETERY - 4/16/06

First up was a recent excursion to Brownhelm Cemetery, located in extremely rural farm country about a mile or two south of Vermilion, Ohio. The cemetery dates from about 1805 and is still currently in use. Of about 200 photographs taken, objects showed up in only about a dozen. Activity was very light. Some orb photographs were captured, and samples of these are presented above. Some of the orbs were rather bright, and you can almost imagine a face present in one of two of them. The white points of light in the distance are candles left burning at various gravesites, so one can clearly see the difference between an orb and an external light source (click photos to enlarge).

The above photographs I found rather unusual. They each show an object that appears orb-like in appearance, but seem to be glowing almost of their own accord. Upon extreme enlargement some of these circular objects appear almost three-dimensional, with mass, depth, even a shadow to one side, much more solid than usual. They do not fit the standard pattern of dust or insects, and only appeared at the one or two “hot spots” in the cemetery where a pattern of activity was noticed. No conclusion has been made on what they may actually be (click photos to enlarge).

TINKERS CREEK CEMETERY - 9/3/06

Tinker's Creek cemetery is an interesting, lonely small cemetery located in a forgotten corner of an Ohio Metroparks Nature Preserve near Valley View, Ohio. It is totally invisible from the road and difficult to reach; most people are unaware it is even there. It is perhaps one of the oldest cemeteries in the state. Originally an Ottawa Indian burial ground, in 1786 a Moravian immigrant mission settled on the site and named it "Pilgerruh", German for "Pilgrim's Rest", but they stayed for only ten months before an unease of the area forced them to abandon the site. In 1797 the Connecticut Western Reserve Land Company surveyed the location as a permanent settlement for immigrants from Connecticut, named after one of the survey team members, Joseph Tinker. Few people settled here, however, choosing instead to live in the nearby settlements of Bedford and Northfield. This hilltop site was used instead as a burial ground for their dead. With embalmers in short supply, most deceased were buried in a simple hollowed-out log for a casket. During the building of the Ohio & Erie Canal it was also used as a mass grave for Irish immigrant workers on the Canal who died from malaria and, being paupers, were refused burial in nearby towns. The last burial was recorded in 1885. Few stones remain to mark the final resting places of those who sleep here, made up of three different burial grounds over the course of a century. Today it is part of the Ohio Metroparks System who cares for the site. Down the street the Gleason farmhouse and barn are undergoing restoration and are reputed to be haunted, which might be the site of a future investigation.

This is one of the most interesting stones in the cemetery, that of Adah and Thomas Mann. Adah died in March 1844 at the age of 27, preceded by Thomas in November 1837 at the age of 46. Folklore has it that an image of Thomas' face watching over his wife can be seen in the lower right hand corner of the stone, and indeed, an almost negative image of a face - including forehead, eyes, nose, mouth and chin can be seen. Natural or paranormal? You be the judge.

Our first EVP recordings were caught in this area of the cemetery. This stone memorial is to the Campbell family children, a boy named Robinson (Robeson?)who died on Sept. 10, 1855 (age unknown), daughter Julia Oct.8, 1860 (age 2) and son Frank Oct.9, 1865 (age 15). Besides phantom mists, unexplained lights and fleeting shadows, the sound of laughter and giggling is often reported here, as is the presence of children watching from behind the trees. It was in this location (pictured) that the EVP was recorded.

In the first clip CLIP 1 I am asking if anyone present would like to speak, and inviting them to do so. As I walk away a soft child's voice saying "Mama" is heard. The entire clip runs about 24 seconds. In the second clip CLIP 2 we've isolated the response "Mama" and amplified it. It's apparent there is part of a word spoken just before "Mama" (perhaps "Come, Mama") but we can't be sure. We invite listeners to comment on what they think it might be.

In a second EVP, we're left scratching our heads. It is the sound of an unearthly moan somewhat further off, but whether it is a human sound or a ghostly animal sound we can't determine. Click on CLIP 3 to hear for yourself. We would welcome your opinions on what you think it might be. The unusual thing is that both EVPs were recorded just before dusk, while it was still somewhat light outside, before it got fully dark. These results will surely call for further investigations at some future time.

YORK STREET CEMETERY, PARMA - 9/3/06

York Road Cemetery is a nice quiet cemetery on the smaller side with fewer graves than one would expect in a cemetery of this type. It is very well kept up, with many bushes, hedges, grassy paths, and benches to rest your feet or sit and read. There was some activity noticed there but it was very light, with some of the best views taken that night pictured here. Its proximity next to a rather noisy main thorougfare however made it an unlikely candidate for successful EVP recordings.

RIVER STYX CEMETERY - 9/16/06

The River Styx Cemetery is an old, forgotten and rather gloomy looking place located on River Styx Road in the general area south of Medina, Ohio. It is bordered on two sides by farmland with a number of wandering cows interested in what we were doing. The graves at this cemetery cover a wide range of time, including one for a “Hero Of Bunker Hill” (Revolutionary War), as well as soldiers from The War of 1812, the Civil War, and an Ohio volunteer in the Spanish-American War who likely died of malaria at Sibone, Cuba, in August 1898. An abandoned underground vault built into the side of a hill and barred by a rusty metal gate adds to the overall eeriness of the place.

While the cemetery has a reputation as being fairly active, visual evidence during our visit was fairly light. Only two or three photographs out of over a hundred show any evidence of orbs, and no mists or lights were seen. A sample of these photos are posted here. A return visit might turn up more results, as well as an investigation of a nearby haunted train trestle that was the site of a fatal accident in 1898 and might be the focus of a future investigation. A visit to nearby Spencer cemetery that same day prior to the River Styx location did not turn up anything of note either visually or on audio and no results will be posted here.

Here’s a good example of something that is NOT paranormal. These two images show a swarm of insects that were caught that night, and one can easily tell them apart from orbs as being very tiny, solid pinpoints of light. Specks of floating dust are even smaller than an insect, and are unlikely to produce orb effects when photographed at a distant, especially those orbs that exhibit bright, almost luminous colors.

We did pick up two EVPs, however, at the River Styx Cemetery. In one clip I am asking if anyone is present and inviting them to speak, when a response was recorded asking “who are you”. Click STYX 1 to hear the raw audio clip, or STYX 1A to hear the response with the background noise filtered out and STYX 1B to hear it with the noise and hiss cleaned up. The second one is a little harder to hear. At one point as I am asking if there is anyone present a very faint “Alice” is heard followed by a further one or two words that are very difficult to make out, though it has been suggested that it sounds a little like “help me.” Click STYX 2 to hear the EVP enhanced and amplified, or STYX 2Ato hear the response with the background noise filtered out and STYX 2B to hear just the word "Alice" isolated from the rest of the recording.
