CEDAR GROVE CEMETERY, PENINSULA - 10/7/06

Cedar Grove is a nice quiet cemetery near Peninsula, OH, that has one above ground crypt and a fair number of both older and newer headstones. Perhaps the most interesting in the "McGovern" monument. Legend has it that an elderly woman who practiced witchcraft and was shunned by most of the locals is buried here, and that the monument is damaged from repeated lightning strikes. The monument itself is very different from anything else we've seen, with a hand carved name, no dates at all, small triangular symbols with a cross atop on each of the four corners, and a larger traingle with notches or lines inside pointing towards the left. It is heavily damaged near the top and cracked, from what we don't know. Who knows how the legend first got started, and what, exactly, lies beneath?

Moderate orb activity was photographed that night. Some of the orbs, like the one just within frame near the top of the first picture, are extremely bright.

Two EVPs were recorded that day. The first is barely a whisper near the end of CEDAR GROVE CLIP 1, here amplified and isolated for clarity CEDAR GROVE CLIP 1-A. When slowed down to 50% normal speed, CEDAR GROVE CLIP 1-B the second word almost sounds like "Michael". We welcome your suggestion as what you hear. The second one is much clearer, and one can make out the word "Here" being spoken just before the end of the clip. CEDAR GROVE CLIP 2 contains the raw audio, and CEDAR GROVE CLIP 2-A is the enhanced version, which leaves little doubt about what is being spoken.

CAVALRY CEMETERY, CLEVELAND - 10/8/06

On a recent visit to some family plots where a large number of relatives are buried, we thought we would try and see if anything unusual could be picked up. In the above photograph and enlargement, a bright light is seen just over one of the family headstones. While it might be a reflection, the light does not seem to fall flat on the sides of the stone but in front of it, and you can even make out the top edge of the stone through the light. Other similar lights have been caught in cemeteries during the day by other investigators. Another point against it being a reflection is that it is not seen on any of the other nearby stones next to it, or on the headstones closer to the camera. One would expect any reflection to be stronger and brighter the closer it is to the light source, but no similar reflection is seen on any of the nearer stones which are almost in front of the camera. If you've caught similar things in photographs of your own, please send them to us for comparison.

Orb activity was captured right over the same stones as where the light is seen above, with one or two being exceptionally bright and one or two even caught in motion. In the upper right hand corner of the last photograph, you can even make out a red orb among all the others, which is very unusual in itself, perhaps the rarest color of all to capture. The strongest and brightest orbs were consistently seen off the side of the plots where a recent family burial had taken place less than five months before, and is currently without a marker.

On a final note I thought these two photos would be instructive. While the subject of dust being mistaken for orbs has been gone into elsewhere on this site, another common explanation for orbs is sometimes suggested as insect activity. In our River Styx investigation (see the previous page), I presented two images of insect activity taken at night at a distance, which clearly shows them as small, tiny, pinpoints of light. Here at Cavalry I caught two more examples of insects captured in mid-flight by the flash of the camera, one at about ten foot distance and another much closer to the camera. You can easily make them out for what they are, insects, almost to the point of being able to see the body and individual wings. It is clear that it would be difficult to confuse flying insects in most cases with the classic "orb" and these two images speak for themselves.

WELTY CEMETERY - 7/1/07

The first two pictures are a good example of daytime orbs. One of the common complaints against orbs in general are they are simply the camera's flash reflecting off some miniscule object in the air - dust, insects, water droplets, or insects. These two recent pictures were captured during full daylight, meaning no flash was used and they both some some type of glowing, luminescent object clearly in motion. As such they stand apart from the classic "orb" photograph. The third image was taken just at dusk, with a flash.

One EVP of note was caught at Welty. In this clip (CLICK HERE) I am reading off the names on the three Welty family headstones, and just after I say the second name, Barnard Welty, you can hear a young girl's giggle or laughter.

PIONEER CEMETERY , WELLINGTON, OHIO - 7/8/07

Nothing of note was captured on any of the photographs taken that day - sometimes, that's how things go. But one EVP was caught that was unusual enough to warrant placing on this site. On CLIP 1, right after I ask "Would you like us to notice you" you can hear a very high-pitch, almost child-like voice saying something unknown. It can almost be ignored as a bird in the background, but in the enchanced CLIP 1A and especially in the slowed-down CLIP 1B you can clearly hear something being spoken at a very high pitch or speed. Attempts to clear it up further have not resulted in any dramatic improvements. In another clip CLIP 2 you can here a garbled whisper just after the snap of a camera shutter. If anyone has any ideas on what it might be saying, we'd sure like to hear from you!

RIVERSIDE CEMETERY, CLEVELAND - 5/4/07

Riverside Cemetery, a rather famous location in the Cleveland area, was my first investigation after some recent heart surgery. Nothing of interest was captured in any of our images, but some rather unusual EVPs were obtained this day. All were recorded during a daylight visit, showing that investigations by day can also be productive, if somewhat noisier.

The first was taken at the grave of Hans Tiedemann and his wife, of Franklin Castle fame (see our pages on the Castle for a full background). In RIVERSIDE CLIP 1 my mother-in-law is discussing the Tiedemann family headstone, as opposed to a nearby monument, and a whispered garbled voice (perhaps "yes?") is heard at about the 7-second mark. In RIVERSIDE CLIP 2 I am asking if we want to move on to a different location, and an unknown woman's voice is heard singing a word that we can't quite make out. In RIVERSIDE CLIP 3, after I announce that we will be leaving the location soon, and asking if anyone would like to speak, is another garbled, half-whispered response.

The next clip is rather clearer. In RIVERSIDE CLIP 4A I ask if the spirits minded us being there and asking questions. An immediate whispered "no" is heard. A slowed-down version is presented here RIVERSIDE CLIP 4B in which it might be clearer.

The last clip is rather unique and unusual. At the time it was recorded, I actually heard a very faint voice behind me in broad daylight with my ears. At first I thought it was someone calling me and trying to get my attention, but upon turning around saw that no one was within 50 or 60 feet of me. I immediately asked if someone would like to speak, hoping to get another response. In RIVERSIDE CLIP 5 you can hear either a female moan (or humming) at about the 3 second mark, and my responding to it five seconds later. It is one of the rare examples that sometimes spirit voices can be heard, when they want to be, by the human ear in broad daylight.
